Jan's Playbook: Play Your Position

When I played professional women’s full-tackle football (yes, full-tackle… and yes, ice packs were my best friend), I learned something real quick:

Everybody loves the idea of scoring the touchdown…but very few people volunteer to get steamrolled so someone ELSE can get the spotlight.

In football — and in leadership — you’ve got blockers, runners, decoys, protectors, play-callers, hype squad, and that one teammate who yells “BALL!” even when they’re nowhere near it.

And guess what? Every single one of them matters.

We tend to think leadership happens only in the big moments — the titles, the applause, the big plays. But the truth? Leadership shows up in the small, consistent ways you play YOUR spot on the field.

When you commit to your role — whatever it is today — you create momentum for everyone around you.

Your effort frees someone else to do their job better. Your consistency becomes someone else’s confidence. Your presence gives the whole team lift.

That’s how real winning happens: Not from one superstar…but from a team of people showing up fully right where they are.

This Week’s Challenge

Look at your own field — work, home, team, project, community. Where’s one place you can “play your position” with more purpose, confidence, or heart this week?

Choose it.

Bring it.

Own it like it’s fourth-and-goal and your favorite snacks depend on it.

You might be surprised who rises because YOU showed up.

It’s Game Time!
